WhatsApp automation for financial advisors

By WordBite Solutions Editorial. Updated 16 October 2026.

Clients and prospects message advisors on WhatsApp about everything from booking a meeting to market falls. The administrative questions are safe to automate. Anything that could be read as advice needs a qualified person and a record.

This guide draws that line and covers the compliance points to check with your regulator.

Policy and regulation

If your business is in a regulated category, follow Meta's WhatsApp Business Messaging Policy and Commerce Policy, and keep medical, health and investment claims out of your messages. WhatsApp's Business Messaging Policy restricts health information and financial account details, and lists medical products as a regulated vertical. Your securities, insurance or pension regulator's rules on communication and record-keeping also apply and may be stricter.

Never automate

  • Recommendations about specific investments or products.
  • Statements about expected returns or performance.
  • Responses to market events that read as advice.
  • Anything requiring a suitability assessment.

Acknowledging advice questions

Advice question reply

Thank you for your message. We can't give investment advice over WhatsApp. Please book a consultation: {{booking_link}}, and your advisor will discuss it with you.

Account details stay off WhatsApp

Do not ask clients to share account numbers, passwords or one-time codes over WhatsApp, and remind them you will never ask. Collect sensitive documents through your secure onboarding process.

Reviews and follow-ups

Annual review reminders and follow-ups after meetings run from your client management system, which records what was sent. We did not find scheduled reminders in Tadlo's published plans. Your team can reply to clients' questions about reviews in the shared inbox.

Record-keeping

Many regulators require advisors to keep records of client communication. Using a business account with a shared inbox, rather than personal phones, keeps messages with the firm. Check whether your record-keeping rules require exporting or archiving conversations, and how.

Educational broadcasts

General educational content, such as tax-saving deadlines or how a product category works, may be acceptable to opted-in clients if it is not a recommendation. Have compliance review every broadcast, and include any disclaimers your regulator requires. In India, Meta charges ₹0.8631 per delivered marketing message and ₹0.115 per utility message, effective 1 October 2026.

Impersonation and fraud

Fraudsters impersonate advisors on WhatsApp. Publish your official number on your website, tell clients you will never ask for passwords or codes, and warn them about fake groups using your name.

Prospects from social media

Prospects who find you through Instagram or a seminar often message to ask whether you can help with their situation. Reply with what kinds of clients you work with, your fee structure and a booking link, and let the consultation do the rest. Avoid replying to "what should I invest in?" with anything but an invitation to book.

Team access

Give each staff member their own seat so you know who replied to whom, and remove access promptly when someone leaves.

Measure

Track consultations booked from WhatsApp and response times. Review a sample of conversations each month for compliance.
